Damian Etienne referred to in the entertainment industry as ‘Hypasounds’, born December 5th, 1982 is a Disc-jockey, Soca Artist, Song Writer and Producer based in the country Barbados. He is the ambassador of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Barbados Limited.
Since the late 90’s he has been one of the most popular Disc-jockeys in Barbados. Rapidly building a growing fan base with his reputation for quality turntable skills, ‘hypasounds’ took his entertaining career to another level, he began to showcase his skills in singing and song writing.
2006 he released his first soca single “Sunshine Girl”. “Sunshine Girl” emerged as a season favourite burning up the airwaves and was nominated for Best Ragga Soca Single Male at the Barbados Music Awards.
His 2011 single “Roll It” scored big internationally on the VP Records Soca Gold Compilation CD, “Roll it” was nominated in three (3) categories at the International Soca Awards, ‘hypasounds’ received the award for Best New Male Artist.
In 2013, ‘hypasounds’ elevated his talent into the field of producing and subsequently opened his own studio Boommuzik where he wrote and produced his 2013 song “Sunrise”. He extended his talent to other artist writing and producing tracks such as “Carnival Story”, “Whole day” and “Get way”.
2015 he emerged as one of the top soca artist with ‘Sugarush” and “How she like it”, both songs made it to the finals of The Sweet Soca competition and The Party Monarch competition respectively. He placed 3rd in The Party Monarch and 2nd in the BT Crop Over Superstar Competition.
He received two awards at the 2016 Barbados Music Awards “Award of Excellence” and “Dedication Award”, his hit “How she like it” placed him a spot in the finals of the 2016 International Soca Monarch Competition held in Trinidad and Tobago.
