Matthew Thomas, alias Red Star Lion made his first appearance on the big stage at ‘Reggae Sunset Jam' which was held at the Barbados National Stadium. Due to the immediate impact of his selfproduced debut single "You Are The One," Red Star Lion was given the opportunity to open the show and set the stage for Damian "Junior Gong" Marley, and other internationally known artistes such as Cocoa Tea and Baby Cham. Within two years of his first performance, Red Star Lion became the most requested artiste from the Rastafarian community, anchoring nearly every show he was invited to.
In just three years (2006-2009) he rose to the fore of reggae in Barbados, leading the entire Bajan contingent at the 2009 Digicel Reggae Festival, though he was the baby of this younger generation of reggae artistes hailing from the island. As a result the demand for Red Star Lion has been on the rise, particularly in Europe and South America, where his voice is being sought after for many genres of music ranging from reggae, dubstep, drum and bass and the list goes on. This has cemented his place on the international music scene, whilst carving a new path for young Barbadian artistes.
